Overview

The Algarvian goat is native to the Algarve region, Portugal’s southern coast. This is a unique opportunity to learn how the famous Fresh Goat Cheese is made, using only local ingredients harvested in the Castro Marim council. After the cheese making worksho, you will join a shepherd on his morning hike with his dog always by his side, walking close to all the goats, having an opportunity to learn what his daily life is like. We'll stop at the top of the hill to enjoy a picnic with homemade bread, bacon, sausage, cheeses, jams, figs and wine. By joining this experience, you are helping promote the art of the shepherd and preserve and pass down this heritage. This bread is on the brink of extinction, so it's of vital importance to help the shepherds in their difficult mission.
